Meet NAU Graduate, Lawrence McCall

Lawrence McCall is a working father who struggled with advancing in his career before he earned his degree. “My life prior to receiving my degree seemed an uphill battle.  I worked many years in law enforcement and gained a lot of experience but it seemed as though I was always stopped from getting promoted because I didn’t have a college degree. I contacted NAU and they helped me start on an educational path to success. When I was near graduation, I started testing for job promotions and attending management courses to better myself and it has paid off tremendously.”
Lawrence pursued his degree with NAU earning his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 2014. After he graduated, he was promoted to Lieutenant at his local Sheriff Department where he now supervises detectives, traffic deputies and administrative staff. “NAU provided me preparation in my career field that all the experience I gained could not,” Lawrence said of his experience in his degree program. “NAU also provided the necessary tools for success, which was what I needed to complete my mission to receive my degree.”

Lawrence said earning his degree gave him more than just a pay increase and promotion. It also gave him the self-assurance he could do whatever he set out to do. “Lastly, I am able to look my daughters in the eyes and tell them to get their education because it pays off, financially, emotionally, and spiritually.”
